How we built a modern identity for Islam in a digital era

Challenge

Islam's digital identity has fallen behind the richness of how Islam was actually experienced in its golden age.

For centuries, Islamic civilization produced some of the most sophisticated visual, architectural, and intellectual culture in the world: intricate geometry, luminous calligraphy, a design language that carried meaning in every line.

But somewhere between then and now, the digital translation of that heritage lost the plot: Apps, platforms, and social content built for Muslims today rarely reflect the depth or beauty of the tradition they represent.

Behold came to us with a mandate that was as much cultural as it was commercial: digitize the Islamic experience without diluting it.

Build something a generation raised on Instagram and immaculate app design could actually connect with, without asking them to choose between their faith and their aesthetic standards.

Insight

We looked at the landscape Behold was entering, and it was crowded with good intentions and bad design.

Existing Islamic apps and social content leaned on outdated visual tropes: green gradients, stock crescents, clip-art calligraphy, dressed up in interfaces that felt like they hadn't been touched since 2012. None of it communicated Islam's actual spirit: the discipline, the beauty, the intellectual rigor, the quiet confidence of a tradition that has never needed to shout.

The gap wasn't in belief, it was design literacy. If Behold was going to reach people where they already were: scrolling, comparing, judging in half a second. It needed to look and feel like it belonged in that world.

Execution

We built Behold a complete media ecosystem, not a one-off visual identity. A system designed to live coherently across the app itself and every piece of social content that would surround it.

The foundation was a hybrid DNA: maximalist heritage married to a minimal contemporary look. Ornament and pattern pulled from classical Islamic art, restrained by the clean grid logic of modern product design. Nothing about it read as a compromise. It read as a modern translation, heritage rebuilt in a native digital language.

From there we took the identity into the world. We produced course content and location shoots that gave the brand a physical, textured presence beyond the screen, and then shot a full campaign across two continents (New York City and Cairo) built specifically for social media from the ground up.

Result

Behold went from zero to viral. The campaign generated a wave of views that validated the core bet: that a modern, design-literate Islamic brand didn't need to soften its identity to travel.

What we built scaled: a coherent visual and media system that holds together across app, social, and campaign content, rather than fragmenting into disconnected assets.

And most importantly, it resonated. The comments under Behold's posts told the real story: Muslims around the world recognizing their own faith reflected back at them in a form that finally matched how they see themselves.
